Special Occasion: Presenting an award

In the ending note of his evaluation to my speech, the evaluator said I had this grin throughout my speech presentation, which he thought probably due to my recent change of status. Hmmmph...I was sure that Mr Donkoi was not on my mind at that moment. I wonder if there is another guy... Hahaha. Oh, did I say that I want to slow down my articulation. Yes, you hear me saying that, and I am the cowboy on the horse riding to the next personal milestone - speak slower and enjoy the moment of hearing my own voice echoing within the four walls.

Anyway, sample this out of the textbook speech - it is neither yummy nor fascinating. I just realized how boring I can be, really.

Good evening, ladies and gentleman.

First of everything, I would like to thank the organizing committee for putting up such a classy tenth year anniversary dinner. Let’s put a round of applause for them.

In the blink of an eye, we have grown our size from a small team of 5 to a big department of 127. It is a known fact that the best resource of a successful organization is its employee, so I want to take this opportunity to thank each of everyone here for the tremendous commitment you have made to our department for the past ten years.

On this memorable night, our CEO, Mr John McKeena has allocated a special budget for us to recognize one particular individual, who has shown his greatest dedication to the department throughout his ten service years.

Looking back at his history with the company, he has joined the department as a junior engineer. He is also part of the pioneer team of the department. Since his early years with the company, he has always been a shining star. He is well recognized as a highly motivated and creative engineer in resolving any complex technical problems. One of his greatest achievements was rooting down a non-functional feature in a 2007 product and provided a fix within 48 hours. That had saved the company $2.5million and most importantly the time to market.

Though he recently went through a LASIK surgery to chunk away his nerdy appearance, he does not change his geeky behaviours at all. As a manager, he probably can just come into the office to manage the engineers and the projects from the high-level perspective. Instead, he still prefer to roll up his sleeves and get his hand dirty. It is his daily routine to pull a chair to sit next to his engineers to provide an insight to any technical challenges. His self initiated effort in growing the technical expertise among the engineers is not only well appreciated by the top management, but also earns him the respect of his peers.

Without further ado, ladies and gentleman, please welcome our most outstanding employee for the past ten years, Mr Kevin Kelly to come upon the stage.
