Days with my grandfather

Hearty collection of Philip Tolendano: Days with my father

One of the night during last week, my aunt dreamed of my grandfather, who had passed away 10 years ago. In the dream, he was not wearing any shoes and saying that he has no money to spend.

Following her dream, my aunt initiated a trip to visit my grandfather's graveyard. According to Taoism tradition, we delivered the items by burning paper models of the clothes, shoes and money on yesterday morning after a short prayer. We bought my grandfather's favourite Green Bean biscuit and vegetarian meal for him too.

I do not remember my grandfather hugging any of his children or me. He was not the type of person, leaving behind a long list of achievements for the descendants to reminisce. He did many wrong doings throughout his life, which we didn't hold any right to question, but rather have silent fury against him. Though we were not be able to live a life truly comprehending each other like good friends do or liking each other in all aspects, we all still miss him in our own way occasionally, even after 10 years he had left us.

Anyway, I walked through the picture by Philip Tolendano of his father this morning. Remembering a decease is a common feeling sharing among us that touching my heart. For that reason, I shall share it with my friends too. Hopefully, this also serves as a reminder to us to foster the bond between ourselves and our elders when they are still around.
