In Hong Kong:
more money = more space = more convenient = more time to sweet talk to each other (because you don't have the frustration of getting lost when trying to find your way back to the hotel).
When Donkoi and I were going to spend 9 nights in Hong Kong last year, we put aside RM4000 for the accommodation after hearing the groans from all the Hong Kong visitors. "Everything is expensive, especially the food and the hotel," many commented.
After Donkoi had fixed up the itinerary, I took charged to book the hotel because I am the hygiene freak. I would rather not pee/shit/shower if the hotel bathroom is not clean. (exaggerating statement) The actual fact is Donkoi got tired of hearing my complain every time after he selected the best hotel according to his definition. Instead, we have a switch in roles this time. With the allocated budget, I have to come out with the best deal for the hotel room.
I have chosen to book on-line instead of approaching the travel agency. Over here, I must tell anyone following my tip to book a room in Hong Kong - if you are sparing RM1300 ~ RM1400 and looking for 3 ~ 4 star hotel in prime area (near to MTR station) for a continuous of 3 days, tour agency might give you a better rate.
However, for cheapskate like me, the cheaper the cost is, the better it is. So, I opt to consult my best friend here: Tripadvisor to match the ranking of the cheapest hotel rooms I can find either at: (1) Agoda (2) HotelClub
We started our journey by spending 7 days in a very small room in Bridal Tea House, whereby Donkoi had to hug me to put me on the bed to make way in the aisle. Besides the space, the room was clean. The interior was new and heart-warming with flowery curtain. The bathroom had a modern touch and CLEAN. Besides the physical appearance, the hotel keepers were friendly and WIFI was provided free with deposit. They also helped us to keep our luggages for a day, when we went to overnight in Macau. The average price per night in Bridal Tea House (Tai Kok Tsui) is ~ RM180 for Christmas - New Year time frame. Where can you get better deal than that in Hong Kong during that peak season?!
The last day is usually the day that we choose to end in a blast. Actually, I was initially interested to try out Citadines Ashley after a good experience in Citadines Bangkok. But, Citadines Ashley was fully booked until the day I left Hong Kong. So, I have to pick Grand Stanford Hotel because it was the next more affordable hotel. We took taxi for the first time in Hong Kong to go to Grand Stanford Hotel. We arrived at this old yet awesome 5-star hotel by the bay of the Tsim Sha Tsui 2 hours before the checking-in time. The early bird gets the worm. My room was upgraded to the suite. The space in the room was superb. By then, I truly believe space would be a factor for depression and demoralization. This hotel was awesome. As we were really trying to save, we did not go all out to pamper ourself with the luxurious breakfast package. However, I would think this hotel is a good selection for a taste for exclusiveness and to feel the happiness for the space!
