Penang under B&W lense

Daniel forwarded all these old pictures of my hometown for me. Some of the captured views were happened before I was born and some were similiar to the memory slides that I had in my brain. So, let's me take you for a ride in the time machine.....

The police station is still there. Auntie Guat used to work there before she married and moved to Setiawan. However, the road in front of the police station had become an one-way road. The double-decker bus was a history which I didn't witness. Trishaws are no longer the king on the road, instead we have Iswara and MyVi. Pedestrians wear T-shirts and Levis jeans with Hello Kitty umbrella and a soft drink in their right hands.

In 1993, I watched Jurassic Park with Auntie Tin as we did not have Nokia 3310 or Sony Ericson k700i. Miscommunication between Auntie Tin and Auntie Choon. Auntie Choon waited at the Cathay in Komtar back then with my sister and Auntie Tin took me to this Cathay to wait for them. No car at home back then, the kids clung on aunts to take them to the town. No phone, no communication. Watched the movie separately. Met at home, then, laughed.

Another old cinema. The vivid memory of this cinema is queueing up to get a lot (a lot) of Jackie Chan's movie during Chinese New Year with Auntie Sim. Back then, the biggest event you could do during Chinese New Year was watching movie. I still recalled that the cinema limiting the amount of tickets one person could purchase. So, you can roughly figure out what I was doing there then. I was a little kid without money, but just to help in queueing up in order to get enough tickets for everyone at home. When I got nearer to the ticket seller and did not see Auntie Sim, I, as a timid girl, could feel aghast and helpless. Silly. Silly. Silly. Donkoi would define this as Piggy. Piggy. Piggy.

Any idea where is this? Should ask my dad. But, he is listening to news now....

Komtar?! Dunno also.

Another dunno where-is-it picture.

Ferry. Did I mention before that my grandpa and grandma from my father side live at the opposite of the ferry pier? Now, you know. Besides, Auntie Siew Kee (my mother's eldest sister) lives at Seberang Perai. Thus, I always took ferry to visit them with my grandma.

I could not imagine myself taking a ride on such kind of cable car. At least, for the cable car, Penang Government is taking full responsibility in providing a more reliable public transport. For people that had been to Penang Hill, you better watch out. Your chairs will break if you keep hopping on them. Yeah, you are right. The police station is still there. It is going to be there forever, I guess. Ha! Ha! Ha!

The title of this place says all. I am thinking whether I had stepped my foot in it previously...

Mr Ngiam (my primary school teacher) favourite place with his wife, according to him. I always thought that he was trying to cheat me by telling us that the island is lovers' island. Ha! Innocent kid with complicated brain.

Vanished. I could hardly see this anymore after my primary school. Even the roti sellers are getting fewer and fewer nowadays.

Fort Cornwallis and Clock Tower are still standing strong. The best upgrade of this places is a roundabout, which is decorated with a metallic and futuristic sphere.

Feel like dragging out all my old photos and put up more pictures. But, I am sleepy...Oik-oik!
