Our save the date video

We saw this competition notice from Andy Wang Cinematography during the beginning of the month. Both of us were keen to participate in it. Days just went by, but the motivation never came by. We were just too caught up with the other summer activities and (of course) our own laziness.

Last weekend, it was finally the moment of doing it or forgetting about it because we need to provide some buffered time for our friends and family to Like our video after the upload before 31st of August. However, the more crucial task always happens at the busiest time of your life. On Saturday, we had to get our baby Mazda to go through its first maintenance routine as well as to find out the root cause of the frequently flattening rear wheel. As expected the mechanics were really busy during the weekend, we waited for almost 4 hours, I read nearly 100 pages of Lee Kuan Yew::Hard Truths to Keep Singapore Going. After a good late lunch at Latham, we went to Lowe's for the first time to try to look for a door mat in preparation for the rain in the fall and the snow in the winter. After all the waiting and walking, we were really exhausted. Of course, the thought of not doing this video did pop up in our heads, especially Donkoi, who has worked diligently for the past few weeks during weekdays and weekends.

We then decided to dedicate our Sunday to see whether we could come up with anything. After a lazy Sunday morning and brunch, we sat down to brainstorm on a white paper - what are the intended messages to convey and how to embed the messages in the story. At the same time, we also decided on the video editing software and installed some iPhone apps to try out the video recording.

By then, it was already 3:00pm. We started our in-house fashion show to decide on our outfit, followed by ironing clothes, make up, hairdos, etc. You know, it is just every little things to make one looks fabulous.

By the time we were ready for our first shooting, it was closed to 5pm. We started off doing some static photo indoor. We have quite a number shots with cooking spatulas, which we ended ditching aside because the effect was not as good as we thought it would be. Then, we had a few photos with props, which we used in the video. I love the one, which Donkoi was holding our big chopping knife (from the Penang Jalan Perak Market) against our poor Pinky. Also, I love the last photo available in our video, whereby Donkoi creatively used the hanger to act as a cupid shooting out a love arrow to me. As we did not have any expensive tripod, which was able to hold the weight of a DSLR with flash, we made used of our iron board to give us the height to take our couple photo. Smart? (^-^)

After the indoor photo, we proceeded to the outdoor video shooting. The video did not turn up as vibrant. The weather was gloomy. It was drizzling when we were recording them. We went home at around 7:30pm with hungry stomachs. Donkoi went off to prepare the dinner while I started to offload all the photos and videos to the computer.

We tried to stitch all the materials into place that night itself. However, the story line just looked so awkward. Since our brains were shutting down, we decided to continue it again later in the week. We were so caught up with things to do and earthquake to cope (not as if it matters, just mention it for fun) during Monday till Wednesday. We kick started our engine again on Wednesday night. The video was starting to look more polished, but some essences were still missing. So, we went on the last few iterations yesterday night to fine tune it to describe our idea better. Voila, our sampat save the date video was ready for the competition. :-D
